DTF Printing

In short

DTF printing produces full-colour transfers on film that are heat-pressed onto T-shirts, caps, bags and other fabric items without a screen per colour. Exhibition Printing Riyadh uses DTF in its Riyadh factory for sponsor-logo event shirts, short VIP runs and mixed-fabric orders, with free artwork checks and delivery across Saudi Arabia.

  • Standard orders in 2-5 business days

An event shirt rarely carries one clean logo. It carries the event mark, three sponsor logos in their exact brand colours, a date and sometimes a photo or gradient. Screen printing that artwork would mean a screen for every colour; DTF prints the whole thing in one pass. The design goes onto a clear film, is coated with hot-melt adhesive powder, cured and then pressed onto the garment.

That workflow makes DTF the sensible choice in three event situations. Short runs: 15 shirts for speakers or 30 for a VIP delegation. Complex artwork: anything with photos, gradients or many spot colours. Mixed items: when the same design must go on cotton tees, polyester caps and a few tote bags, DTF moves between them without new setup. A white ink layer under the colours keeps them bright on black or navy garments.

The trade-off is scale. For several hundred crew shirts with a one-colour logo, silicone screen printing costs less per piece, so we will say so when we quote. We also supply ready-to-press transfers on request if you run your own heat press. Standard DTF orders ship in 2-5 business days to any address in the Kingdom.

Is DTF right for my design and quantity?

DTF earns its place when the design has many colours, a photo or a gradient, or when the run is too short to justify screens. It is also handy for mixed orders across different fabrics. The trade-off shows on big solid blocks, which feel heavier and breathe less. For a simple one-colour logo on hundreds of shirts, screen printing is usually more economical. A good rule: complex art suits DTF, simple art at volume suits screen.

What makes a clean DTF print?

File quality matters most. DTF reproduces what it is given, so a blurry logo stays blurry. Remove backgrounds completely, as a faint white box can print as a visible patch. Soft shadows and semi-transparent effects can print speckled or rough, since the white layer beneath them is hard to fade. Very thin lines can lift over time, so keep them reasonably thick. Fill large blocks with gaps or texture when you want a softer, lighter feel.

How long does a DTF print last, and how should it be washed?

A well-pressed DTF print holds up well to regular washing, though the result depends on the fabric, the print and how it is cared for. Wash inside out in cool or warm water, avoid bleach and strong softeners, and air dry where possible. Never iron directly on the film. Early peeling at the edges usually points to pressing issues, so if you press transfers yourself, follow the temperature, time and peel guidance supplied.

All FAQs
What is the difference between DTF and screen printing?

DTF transfers a printed film with heat and suits detailed, multi-colour designs in smaller quantities, while screen printing applies ink directly and often suits larger runs of simpler artwork. We will recommend one after seeing your design and quantity.

Which fabrics can DTF print on?

DTF works on many fabric types and garment colours, including dark items. Tell us your fabric and we will confirm it before production.

What file should I send for DTF printing?

A high-resolution file with a transparent background is ideal. If you only have a low-quality image, our design support can advise on what can be done.

Can DTF print white on a black shirt?

Yes, DTF lays down a white ink layer behind the colours, which keeps them bright on dark fabric. White areas of the design print as true white rather than the colour of the shirt.

How does a DTF print feel on the fabric?

It sits on the surface as a thin film, so a small logo feels light while a large solid block feels more noticeable. Adding gaps or texture to big areas helps the garment stay soft and breathable.

Can I place small and large designs on the same order?

Yes, one order can include several designs and sizes. List each design, its print width and its quantity so nothing is mixed up on the film.
